Seventeen years ago, I made a long-term commitment to develop a golf tournament that would raise significant dollars for diabetes research, public awareness and patient education. We have raised well over $1 million dollars in support of this objective. Our 2009 event, the second annual “Scramble for a Cause”, continued a succession of exceptional events and experiences for our sponsors, golfers and celebrities to benefit the Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association.
Diabetes affects almost 24 million Americans and is the major contributor of blindness, amputations, strokes, heart and kidney failure.
Chris Redman, former UofL QB and current Atlanta Falcons QB, and I will be hosting the event again in 2010. Both of us have personal stakes in helping find a cure and educating our community. My dad and one of my
sisters had diabetes. Chris is helping in our community because he sees the growing number of American adults and youth who are being stricken by this disease.
We are changing venues for our 2010 event. Our new home is Hurstbourne Country Club. We are excited about providing you the opportunity to play this historic Louisville golf course and experience its traditional country club ambience. We will once again host an eclectic mix of national, regional or local celebrity to each foursome and present The Ralph Cowgill Memorial Celebrity Shootout prior to the scheduled shotgun start for the scramble. Golf will be followed by cocktails, dinner, awards, live auction and a short program featuring a few of our celebrity participants.
We need you and our sponsors in the fight against diabetes. Come join us on
July 12th at Hurstbourne Country Club. It’s a day of great golf, fun and prizes.
